Pokemon Go! – YTA Gamer Nation
The 2016 Summer Youth Training Academy was an opportunity for us to work with a great group of 15 youth interested in digital media and creative expression career pathways. After two weeks of media trainings, the youth team split into groups to work on different projects with local community partners.
Tyler Harrison, Cameron Rylands, Jacob Peldo, Kaine Coleman, Dhaval Prajapati, Steven Baker, and Gabriel Patchin selected to work on developing a radio show with KFUG Community Radio. The youth had the freedom to decide what their show should be about; so with the recent craze over the new mobile game, Pokemon Go!, the team decided to develop a radio show about the mobile app, the effects it has had on Crescent City residents (from weight-loss to public safety issues), and how it is impacting players around the world. The team did research on the app, shared their own experiences and opinions, and recorded interviews with people in downtown Crescent City.
